The river from the bridge
Having lived in Preston for almost 2 years I’ve realised there are so many places around the city that I’ve never been to or even knew existed. As I’ve nearly finished my second year of Uni, with only 1 left to go (scary) I decided it was time to go exploring, and see a bit more of my city.
One day last week I had a free afternoon and didn’t fancy going home and failing to write an essay, so instead I decided to go for a wander. I just kept walking down the road to a part of the city i’d never been to, and turned off the road and found the entrance to a park I never knew existed.
The entrance to the park
This park was nothing special, it had a big open expanse of grass, a small playground with swings and a slide, and a few planted flower beds. However after walking further into the park I found a small lake, where I sat on a bench and watched the ducks playing in the water. The lake lead into a small river which gradually got smaller as I followed it through the park.
The river turning into a stream
After having a rather tough and stressful week finding this little area of nature, where I couldn’t see or hear the city, was exactly what I needed. As a village girl who grew up playing in fields, finding such a nice, calm and peaceful park in the middle of the city really chilled me out and put me in such a great mood.

Sometimes I think it’s important to spend some time in nature and chill out, and I definitely plan to go back to this park in the next month. Probably when my assignments are stressing me out, or when we have a sunny day and I can get some friends together for an afternoon of sunbathing and relaxing.
Have you explored your city or town recently? You never know what you places you might find.
